Blessed Detachment. Thursday, April 3. Lent 2014.

Blessed detachment.
Detachment…
as something holy?

We are taught to be so involved.
Involved in people’s lives,
sports,
school,
work,
activities,
the latest gossip.

We are supposed to be fully updated
on all these events,
and more,
all the time.

It’s draining.
And not really what we should be doing.

We are supposed to be detached from the world.

What we should be most involved in is Christ
and how He is working in our lives
and how He can work in others’ lives through us.

But we’re not.

Montfort says detachment from this world is blessed.
Holy.
He uses another word,
indifference.

Indifference is such a ‘blah’ word to me.
It so goes against my nature.
Anything that I do,
I go full force,
I put my heart and soul into everything.

But I don’t think that is the way it should be looked at.

I think it means that we should not allow the stress of
the day to day struggles eat at us.

I think we are supposed to be detached from the world
and the stress it so generously provides
and the lies it tries to sell as truth.

I think it means taking a deep breath
and offering it all up to God.

Being detached from the world means
allowing our hearts to be more attached to God.

We all get angry and stressed out by the world,
but when we acknowledge that none of that truly matters,
when we live by blessed detachment,
and show our indifferent to everything by Christ and His plan,
we experience peace.

Today, I am going to try and dismiss all the unnecessary
and negative emotions of this world.
Detach myself from them.
And more importantly,
attach myself to Christ and His plan for me.
Are you up for the challenge?
This Lenten blog series is based upon St. Louis de Montfort's writings. Unless otherwise noted, all the phrases in quotation marks are taken from the book Jesus Living in Mary.

"...and the stress it so generously provides
and the lies it tries to sell as truth..." HAH! Thank the world for being SO generous, isn't that special...LOL...not.

Sometimes, I wish I could just curl up in a ball and hide away from the world...but that is not realistic...we all have our vocations that we must fulfill and tend to...we have our soul to watch over...and the salvation of souls is at hand...time is short.

I recently discovered that I am a full-fledged "ruminator", always hashing things out...trying to figure out the "whys" of various situations...then I realized that ruminating goes totally against the Word of God! Ooops! What a revelation THAT was!

I am learning to detach myself from my brain, let alone the negative impact of various worldly events from various sources...kinda letting go and letting God...kinda more like, "Jesus, I trust in You" ...truly trusting. Focusing upon Philippians 4:8 and forcing my brain to do this...in spite of any worldly opposition...it isn't easy...

...BUT, truly I say to you...it brings so much calm and peace to focus on "...whatsoever things are true, whatsoever modest, whatsoever just, whatsoever holy, whatsoever lovely, whatsoever of good fame, if there be any virtue, if any praise of discipline, think on these things."

Think of beautiful, holy, peaceful things...grab a scripture to mull over in your brain over and over again throughout the day any time a worldly negative impact tries to blast you...it is so much more wonderful to abide under the umbrella that never folds up...the shadow of the Almighty...and abide in the peace that surpasses all understanding...in the midst of any storm.

May Our Lady, full of Grace, pour out upon you this day all of the graces that you so desperately are in need of that you may walk in the peace of Christ. +Amen.
