Thoughts from a Swing Set. Friday, April 4. Lent 2014.

I’d like to start off this post by saying
“When I was younger…”
but we all know that would be a lie.

I still love swing sets
and I still love thinking about life.

There’s something simple about swing sets.
The perfect place to think about the complexity of life.
Sometimes I feel like my thoughts about life are like Inception.
Thoughts inside of thoughts inside of thoughts.

I’m a productive person.
Give me two days with no school
and I am bored out of my mind.

Productive, Type A, go-getter has its benefits.
But there are some drawbacks too.
Many.

I so struggle with being busy constantly.
But still having an obligation to the Lord.

All the homework.
But my Bible is sitting right here.

Preparing for the real world.
But preparing my heart for Heaven.

I guess this is where all glory to God comes into play.

All that we do,
be it the busyness of life,
the homework,
the life prep,
the family,
the chores,
it can all be for His glory.

My psychology degree might not help me in Heaven
but if I am fulfilling my vocation on earth,
then I am bringing glory to God.

I might not have to do chores in Heaven,
but practicing obedience might help me to get there.

Let all we do,
unimportant as it may seen,
bring glory to Him.

“Whatever you do, do for the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31
And,
get on a swing set
and think about life.

Soli Deo Gloria.
All glory to God.

“Eternity is the axis of reference, a lasting phase, while our time on earth is brief, and valuable insofar as it prepares us for blissful eternity; your momentary suffering will be changed into an eternity of happiness.
This Lenten blog series is based upon St. Louis de Montfort's writings. Unless otherwise noted, all the phrases in quotation marks are taken from the book Jesus Living in Mary.

  1. Amen.
This posting was a breath of fresh air, blowing across my face, as I swing gently back and forth with my eyes closed...peace, serenity, contemplation...the beauty and awesomeness of Our God.

    Ad maiorem Dei gloriam!
    (deep sigh)
