Rooted in Love. Advent Day 15. December 15, 2013.

In today’s culture,
we put so much emphasis on education.
Most decent jobs now require at least a Master’s degree.
If someone does well financially without an education, it seems to be a taboo.
I’m all for education.
I love learning
and I think the more we continue to learn, the better.
However, education doesn’t seem to be much of a qualification in God’s book.
I think He actually requires more.

In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul says this:

The love of Christ…surpasses knowledge.
Ephesians 3:19

Put into context,
Paul is praying for all people that they might have the knowledge
to understand how incredible Christ’s love is.

That He may grant you in accord with the riches of His glory to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner self, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts though faith; that you, rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:16-19

Paul is praying that the Ephesians are blessed with knowledge.
A certain type of knowledge.
A knowledge of the love of Christ.
It not a concept that is easily understood
but it does not call for a degree or an education.
It prerequisites are to be rooted and grounded in love.

We must be rooted in love in order to be able to understand
the width and length and height and depth of the love
that Love Himself has for each of us.

This was Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians.
This was Paul’s prayer for all.
This should be our pray for ourselves and the whole world.

Rooted in love is where we will find Love.
