Let Suffering be a Gift. Advent Day 9. December 9, 2013.

Sometimes, the world just beats us up,
maybe even our families and friends,
our bosses,
even our spouses.

Sometimes physically,
but also verbally,
emotionally,
and psychologically.

We might be treated as objects
as opposed to incredible creations of God the father.

We suffer.
Despite contrary beliefs,
suffering isn't all for naught.
There is redemption found in suffering.

For whenever anyone bears the pain of unjust suffering because of consciousness of God, that is grace…But if you are patient when you suffer for doing good, that is a grace before God. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in His footsteps, He committed not sin and no deceit was found in his mouth.
1 Peter 2: 19-22

There may be pain and sorrow found in suffering.
However, joined with Christ,
pain and suffering can be a grace.

Even in the darkest of time,
Christ has not left.
But rather, Christ is still pouring out grace
and He has left a path to be followed during suffering.

Unite your sufferings to Christ.
He has been there.
He knows.
He is there.
There is offered redemption and grace.

Suffering can be a time to grow closer with God,
to receive His grace,
to follow His path,
and to share His light.
Take a look at the cross.

Let suffering be a gift.

  1. AMEN.
To see the "beauty" in suffering is a great grace! I imagine the ecstatic joy of the saints and martyrs...and by golly if they could do it...so can I.
My prayer after receiving Holy Eucharist is:
"Stay with me Lord, now, forever, and always...no matter what.
    Make me a great saint."
Be wary of what you pray...once I started to pray this...the sufferings increased...no kidding.
    God is so good.

  2. This is one of the most important things that I talk about with those who are in the RCIA- redemptive suffering. Most people do not understand what a powerful opportunity it is and how much it connects us to Christ. Great job, Rebecca!
